Detlef Fickermann, born in 1952, worked as research associate at the Department of Empirical Education Research at the University of Erfurt from 1993 to 2000. Then he was Consultant in the Federal Ministry of Education and Research until spring 2007; amongst others, he was responsible for national and international student assessments, educational reporting, and educational research. From March 2007 to July 2009, he was in charge of the Department of "Strategic Issues in the Educational System" at the Hamburg Civic Authorities for Schools and Vocational Training (BSB). He then became founding commissioner and managerial head of the Hamburg Centre for the Support of the Scientific Backing and Research of Development Processes at Schools (ZUSE), a common institution of the University of Hamburg and the BSB. Since the beginning of 2012, he is the head of the department “Research Cooperation, Strategies of Data Acquisition” at the “Institute for Educational Monitoring and Quality Development” (IfBQ).
